BROMELIA

 Bromelia
Unique shape and color of flowers are conspicuous among the green blades of the leaves, is the main attraction bromelia. Color of leaves and brilliant flowers almost in all seasons. Pachyveria clavifolia

Soil Type: A GOOD general purpose potting soil (a soil that retains water yet drains well) with a little added sand or if you want to mix your own take: 3 parts coarse sand or perlite, 2 parts garden soil, 2 parts humus (leaf mold), 1 part rinsed aquarium charcoal chips and a dusting of bone meal and limestone or a couple of eggshells (which can be substituted for limestone). Always use a pot with a hole.
Watering: Drench the soil and let it become barely moist between waterings. Remember to reduce watering during the winter or dormant season. If you use rainwater, be careful as it could be acidic. Use lime free warm water.
Fertilizer: Feed only twice a year, once in April and once in July with a water soluble fertilizer.
Plant Pests: Prone to mealy bugs and rarely scale. Always inspect any new plant for pests before introducing it to your home or greenhouse.
Propagation: Leaves, seeds, tip cuttings (let the cut end dry out first) in the. Propagate them in evenly moist soil, mist occasionally and keep in filtered sunlight until they are growing.
Gardening Tips & Care: Requires good ventilation. Be careful not to over-water. Put a layer of small gravel at the bottom of the pot and also one inch on the top of the soil to prevent stem rot.

PACHYPODIUM

Ada tanaman hias pendatang baru yang disebut-sebut hendak menyaingi Adenium. Namanya Pachypodium. Tanaman asal Madagaskar yang anehnya biijinya banyak datang dari Eropa itu, belakangan mulai dikerling banyak petani.

Pachi --atau biasanya para petani menyebutnya: Poci-- memang kini mulai jadi 'mainan baru' para petani. Paling tidak, hal itu bisa kita lihat di beberapa kota di Jawa Tengah dan Jabodetabek.

Poci yang populer
Biji-biji Poci diperoleh konon dari negara-negara Di Eropa. Pengimpornya, seperti halnya biji Adenium, umumnya adalah petani yang menjadi orang kantoran, yang kebetulan punya akses dengan Internet.

Di antara begitu banyak jenis Poci, yang paling banyak masuk --otomatis juga banyak disemai di Indonesia-- adalah jenis Poci Geyei, Lemerei, dan Saundersii. Bukannya jenis lain tak masuk, tapi agaknya biji-biji jenis lainnya relatif lebih sulit.

Biji Rosulatum, misalnya, dihindari petani karena lambat pertumbuhannya. Dalam usia 2 bulan saja, tinggi cuma mencapai 1 cm. Jelas tidak ekonomis, meski harga bibitannya, setinggi 1 cm, bisa dijual Rp. 25rb. Jenis Bevicaule lebih 'menyeramkan'. Dari 100 biji, kemungkinan gagal, bisa mencapai 100 persen. Padahal, kalau satu biji saja berhasil tumbuh jadi bibitan, harganya bisa Rp. 500rb.

Geyei, Lemerei dan Saundersii, sebaliknya dikenal mudah disemai, karena baik ukuran maupun perlakuan, tidak beda dengan kita memperlakukan biji adenium. Harga bisa saja lebih miring, tapi tetap gelap.

Di pasaran, Lemeri dan Geyei --yang notabene merupakan tanaman berduri-- setinggi 5 cm bisa laku Rp. 25rb perpohon sedang Saundersii setinggi 10 cm laku dijual Rp. 65rb perpohon. Dengan permintaan yang banyak, harga si Poci memang termasuk stabil. Bahkan, mungkin karena 'pendatang baru' harga kadang juga bisa dilempar di atas harga yang sudah disebut tadi.

Wajar petani dan pedagang bersukacita setelah sekian lama dirundung malang. Apa pasal?

Adenium bagaimana?
Suka tidak suka, mereka mulai merasa masa depan Adenium, --baik grafting atau bonggolan-- semakin suram saja. Boro-boro berharap harga semakin bagus, menjaga agar harga stabil saja sudah hebat.

Bisa dipahami. Saat ini peredaran biji Thailand maupun Taiwan begitu mudah masuk ke tanah air. Bahkan bisa dibilang, biji bukan lagi domain petani, atau pedagang tanaman hias. Siapa saja bisa 'mengimpor'.

Para petani di Ciledug, Karang Tengah, Gondrong, Parung Kored atau daerah-daerah pinggiran Jabodetabek yang dulu mengklaim sebagai satu-satunya sentra penghasil adenium di Indonesia, jelas harus diberi informasi baru. Dewasa ini sentra adenium sudah tersebar di mana-mana. Ladang Adenium sudah merebak di Kroya, Tegal, Kudus, Manado, Madiun, Kediri, Bali sampai Lombok. Bahkan kabarnya, maraknya penyemaian biji ini disponsori oleh para pejabat lokal.

Otomatis, perimbangan supply dan demandmenjadi tak seimbang lagi karena penawawan lebih banyak katimbang kebutuhan. Dengan asumsi seperti itu, wajar: saat ini adenium no future.

Para petani di Jabodetabek, misalnya, sejauh pengamatan , kini mulai getol menanam biji-biji Adenium tapi dari jenis Arabicum yang harganya --menurut mereka-- masih bisa di'main'kan sementara mereka juga mulai menanam biji-biji Poci tadi.

Di kalangan hobiis, utamanya di kalangan para adenium-mania, diam-diam juga terjadi pergeseran. Jika sebelumnya mereka berlomba-lomba memiliki Adenium Obesum dengan bonggol terbesar, kini mereka mulai memburu jenis-jenis adenium yang unik dan antik. Umpamanya, jenis kristata, daun varigata, bonggol kuning, atau bentuk-bentuk langka lainnya.

Apakah Poci akan menjadi alternatif baru?
